Successful psychotherapy can be defined as the removal of blockages from your life path, allowing you to become who you were fully meant to be.
Psychotherapy is a conjunction of two Greek words, psuche, or soul, and therapeia, or service/attendance, which we now characterize as the treatment of the mind. This may matter to you as my view of psychotherapy follows those roots: I aim to attend to the soul or heart of what ails my clients.
Further, I see the soul as an embodied, situated, active intelligence i.e., human beings act from the top of their skulls to the bottom of their feet: your body language often says as much about you as the words or tone you choose to speak. It’s not just what’s going on in your head, it’s about your whole life story and how you see yourself within that networked narrative.
My experience as a therapist is focused on increasing your agency, the ability to do the things you want to do. This often begins with clarification of your values and priorities and then finding the internal and external blockages between today’s being and tomorrow’s becoming.
My therapeutic experience is in addiction, trauma, burnout, and life course changes. But, if one of those is not the reason you’re reading this, and something pulls you toward what you’re reading, please feel free to reach out. Bottom line: I’m in this profession to help people self-actualize. We, you and I, clear blockages between who you are today and who you want to be tomorrow.
It can get a lot better.
